Women have to work up to 40 years longer than men to bridge the gap that leaves them with 100,000 £ less in their retirement plan, according to a report by the life insurance company Scottish Widows that deals with gender wage gap.

This wage gap is mainly due to unequal financial emoluments, part-time employment, which is more common between women, and the absence of payment for the care of family members, when needed.

The calculations of Scottish Widows, published on International Women’s Day, showed that, on average, a woman saves approximately 2,200 £ per year for the first 15 years of her career, as opposed to the 3,300 £ that a man of the same age saves.

The gap between the sexes was further widened by the pandemic, which has affected the income of professional positions that are more frequently occupied by women.Women have to work up to 40 years longer than men to bridge the gap that leaves them with 100,000 £ less in their retirement plan, according to a report by the life insurance company Scottish Widows that deals with gender wage gap.
